Password Reset

Depending on your VPN account type and your organization please choose the appropriate set of instructions below:

I.  If your VPN account username is a simple username without the "@domain.nshealth.ca" component - please call your helpdesk (you can find the phone numbers on this site's HOME page). Mention that you require a local VPN account password reset ( "non-Active Directory") and they will notify VPN support to contact you.

II.  If your organization is SSDHA, SWNDHA, AVDHA, CDHA, IWK or HITS-NS and your VPN account username format is:

username@domain.nshealth.ca (For example: doejx@swndha.nshealth.ca)

  1. Open your web browser (Internet Explorer) and browse to https://email.nshealth.ca ( *Note https) or just click HERE .
  2. Enter your username as follows: domain\username (i.e. swndha\doejx) * Note the proper slash direction.
  3. Enter what you believe your password to be and click the "Log On" button (if you have no idea than skip to step 6).
  4. If you get prompted to change your password please do so (your previous password has expired). If you are unable to get past the log on page skip ahead to step 6).
  5. After you receive the “password successfully changed” message now try to log in to the VPN with your usual VPN username and your newly created password (if you are still unable to log in to the VPN continue to step 6).
  6. Call your helpdesk (see this site's HOME page) and request a password reset for your "Active Directory" user account.
  7. Once the password reset has been completed by the helpdesk, open your web browser (Internet Explorer) and browse to https://email.nshealth.ca ( *Note https) or just click HERE .
  8. Enter your username as follows: domain\username (i.e. swndha\doejx) * Note the proper slash direction.
  9. Enter the new temporary password that the helpdesk just created for you and click the "Log On" button.
  10. You should be prompted to change your password by entering the temporary password ("Old Password") and then entering a new password. Enter the new password in the second text box to confirm.
  11. You should then get a message that your password has been changed successfully.
  12. You can now try to log in to the VPN with your usual VPN username and your newly created password.

III.  If your organization is CEHHA, CHA, PCHA, GASHA, or CBDHA and your VPN account username format is:

username@domain.nshealth.ca (For example: doejx@cehha.nshealth.ca)

  1. Open your web browser (Internet Explorer) and browse to https://email.nshealth.ca ( *Note https) or just click HERE .
  2. Enter your username as follows: domain\username (i.e. swndha\doejx) * Note the proper slash direction.
  3. Enter what you believe your password to be and click the "Log On" button (if you have no idea than skip to step 6).
  4. If you get prompted to change your password please do so (your previous password has expired). If you are unable to get past the log on page skip ahead to step 6).
  5. After you receive the “password successfully changed” message now try to log in to the VPN with your usual VPN username and your newly created password (if you are still unable to log in to the VPN continue to step 6).
  6. Call your helpdesk (see this site's HOME page) and request a password reset for your "Active Directory" user account.
  7. The helpdesk will have to create a work order for your local DHA IT department to reset your password. Once you have been notified that your password has been reset continue to step 8 below.
  8. Open your web browser and browse to https://email.nshealth.ca ( *Note https) or just click HERE .
  9. Enter your username as follows: domain\username (i.e. swndha\doejx) * Note the proper slash direction.
  10. Enter the new temporary password the helpdesk just created for you and click on the "Log On" button.
  11. You should be prompted to change your password by entering the temporary password ("Old Password") and then entering a new password. Enter the new password in the second text box to confirm.
  12. You should then get a message that your password has been changed successfully.
  13. You can now try to log in to the VPN with your usual VPN username and your newly created password.
